Helium 5G. Genesis, extended again?

The low down

There's a new HIP on the block. HIP75. An emergency HIP that needs to pass before Feb 1st. Or you will no longer receive mobile tokens because the pre-mined MOBILE tokens in the Treasury will run out. They currently have around 1.5B tokens in there. They give out 100M daily to all the Helium 5G radios passing the current tests. That only leaves 15 days worth of rewards left if everything stays the same. While they are not calling it "Genesis," but "Programmatic Treasury" it is pretty much the same.

Why is this happening

Helium still needs to finish the migration to Solana. Unfortunately, it is taking longer than expected. The current expectation for the Solana merge to be complete is by the end of Feb, but this date still needs to be confirmed.

What's going to change?

They want to introduce a Programmatic Treasury using the Helium blockchain instead of Solana because it's still not ready. Technical details aside. Most things are going to stay the same from a user's view. You would still earn about the same amount of mobile tokens, and around the same time. These changes would most likely last until the merge is complete.

What should you do?

Since this will stop all the mobile rewards if it does not pass, you should vote for it if you want to keep earning mobile tokens. Suppose you want to help refine the HIP or have questions. You can join the official Helium discord and discuss it: click here. The vote is not live yet. Nobody can vote. It's something to keep in mind of what's coming over the next two weeks.
